TECHNOLOGY AND TRUTH FOR AN EIGHT YEAR OLD BOY

“TECHNOLOGY AND TRUTH FOR AN EIGHT YEAR OLD”

As I sit here writing this, I am waiting for the technician to finish connecting my home to the new-fangled high speed internet and cable television service today. He tried to explain some of the jargon to me, but it sounded like he was speaking Swahili or something.

Now, maybe most of you can grasp and decipher all this new technology and its phraseology, but ask anyone who has known me longer than seventeen minutes, I cannot. I guess I could be the poster boy for the term “technologically challenged.”

Do not get me wrong, I am not complaining about new ideas and innovation. I feel blessed indeed to flip a switch and have lights, or push a handle and flush a toilet. Innovation and inventions are fantastic. I just wish I could understand the technology of our world a lot easier.

I am reminded of the fellow who called the store to ask about the issues he was having while trying to set up his newly acquired DVR. The 20-something smart aleck clerk sighed impatiently and answered, “Sir, it is so simple, any eight year old can set that DVR up.” To which the fellow replied, “Well, my DVR didn’t come with an eight year old in the box, so could you please send one right over?”

I am grateful that people that surround me can help me operate all the latest technology in my life. But I am far more grateful that God’s gospel is so simple that even ‘an eight year old that didn’t come with the DVR box’ can understand it.

The Word of God explains that “all have sinned.” It goes on to state that the wages for that sin in a person’s life is death for eternity. And He winds up telling us that “whosoever will call out to Christ can be saved.” Wow! Easy-peasy! I know it is easy enough to understand, because I grasped His Truth as an eight year old boy myself.

I thank God that I didn’t need a “technician” to set up my connection and explain God’s plan to me. And neither do you.
