Growing up in a family of five kids, we siblings were always looking for a fun activity. Oh, we knew there was always something to do. That comes with the unending work and responsibilities of living on a farm. But we were always on the lookout for something different and fun, that didn’t involve doing those daily dreaded chores.

But once we all agreed on an activity that appealed to all five of us, then came the next step. The ritual of getting Mom and Dad to say yes. To gain their permission, we were going to have to go through The Red Tape.

First of all, we knew that one of us had to present our case in just the exact way to Mom. Once that was accomplished, she would then tell us to “Go ask your Daddy.” Once we had successfully jumped over the Mom Hurdle, we had to pose our request in a way that climbed over the Dad Mountain, convincing him that she agreed with us…without actually telling any falsehoods, of course.

We could be thwarted at any juncture of The Red Tape. Sometimes we never got past the first step; actually agreeing with each other on what we wanted to do. Then there was the problem of obtaining Mom’s tentative approval. And getting that needed blessing from Dad could really prove to be daunting.

The term Red Tape is defined as “excessive bureaucratic rigmarole.” We all are aware that if you contact a governmental agency concerning a simple matter, you can get overwhelmed and frustrated by wading through all the red tape. Having to jump through way too many hoops can quickly wear on your resolve and determination.

I am so glad God doesn’t deal in “excessive bureaucratic rigmarole.” In fact, you can call on His name at any time 24/7, and He is there listening to your plea for help. No appointment time necessary to approach the Mighty Creator of all. The Bible says, “Let us come boldly before the throne of grace...(Heb. 4:16) Scripture also repeats on that theme in I Peter 5:7, “that we can cast all our cares on Him, because He cares for you.” That means God really will get involved in your life and help you.

I love the fact that Jesus acts as our High Priest and legal representative to God the Father. Hebrews 8:1 tells us that, “We have a High Priest on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty.” He is ready and very willing to plead your case with God.

In John 14, Jesus said, “No man comes to the Father but by Me.” God made the only way to heaven very simple. Through His Son, Jesus. No red tape involved. Just your truly repentant heart and the forgiveness of the Heavenly Father through His Son, Jesus Christ.
