Talking About Jesus

Former major league baseball player Tony Graffanino, known for his stand on being a Christian baseball player, and who played on several major league teams was heard sharing his testimony of being involved in a number of community efforts, especially with boys and girls clubs.

He shared the experience of an ongoing ministry effort in a European country. Each year his organization held a week-long baseball camp, during which time they also offer a daily Bible study.

In the past years, the leaders tried to find acceptable ways to convince the campers that God exists so they would place their faith in Him. Sad to say that after some thirteen years, they had seen only three people decide to follow Jesus.

Then they changed their approach. Instead of “trying to present facts, or winning arguments in various debates,” they simply talked about “the amazing life and teachings of Jesus.” As a result, more campers came to listen, and more chose to follow the teaching of the Lord.

The apostle Paul said that when we tell others about the gospel of Jesus Christ, we should always, “Speak forth the truth plainlyWe do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord.” (2 Cor. 4:2, 5 NIV)

Paul also set a standard in his evangelism that all Ministers, Elders, Bishops and Preachers of the gospel should bring with them when called to pastor a new congregation. “I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” (1 Cor. 2:2)

May we become more knowledgeable of God’s word, the Bible. May we always be ready and able to give a testimony of who the Savior is and the changes He has made in our lives. And may there be no debate, none in the least, of our faith as we strive to make heaven our goal.

Let it be known among our family, friends, neighbors, fellow students, and co-workers, “We serve a risen Savior.”
