Still Hope

The Bible tells us that Zechariah was an older priest, how old we are not sure. He belonged to Abijah, the eighth division of the twenty-fourth priestly order. The interesting note in this historical event is that out of some 18,000 priests, lots were cast to select the priest to be chosen to serve in the temple for two weeks.

Because their number was so great, many priests went a lifetime and were never chosen to serve a tour of duty in the house of God. Just look at how amazing our God is. In the fulfillment of His historical word, a lot was cast and an older priest, Zechariah was selected.

The angel Gabriel appeared and gave him the news of the soon to be birth of a son, whose name was to be called John. Luke 1:1-25. The humor in this great revelation was the priest statement, “But, me and my wife are so oooold.” His reward for doubting the angel Gabriel was that he was made speechless until the time of John’s birth.

Lately we’ve written about working in the House of God as MATURE members of the church and how we tend to view things. If you are ready to retire, or if you have retired and are looking for part-time work you qualify to seek employment at your church, temple or place of worship.

It may appear questionable as to what job you might do; The Pastor and the spiritual leadership of the church is always looking for the WISDOM, EXPERIENCE, and WILLING HEARTS, especially those seasoned church folks who can set a Living, Spiritual, Christian Example for our “Tempestuous” young folks.

You may belong to a supper large church with hundreds of members; or a church with less than twenty-five on any given worship day. There is always, always something needing to be done by willing hands. From greeting strangers at the door, to walking between the pews, taking out paper and gum wrappers from the communion holders.

There is Still Hope, indeed there is. Thomas Shepherd asked the question and then gives us the answer when he wrote: Must Jesus bear the cross alone and all the world go free? No, there’s a cross for everyone, and there’s a cross for me.
