I’m Blessed

My reflection of time causes me to look back forty years ago on this date, May 29th 1976; as Lady and I stood before the justice of the peace and promised to love each other till death do us part.

This past Sunday morning, forty years later found us sitting in the house of the Lord praising and thanking Him for our many blessings. Blessings through the good times, the loss of love ones, much sickness, Pastoring, and our various ministries along with the many lives God has allowed us to interact with.

Several weeks ago, in an article “My Testimony.” I wrote the following,     “I’m reminded of the importance of presenting before God, me, Bro. Bobby my needs, my praises, my request for forgiveness, my moments of anger, doubts, those thoughts and misgivings towards others, my commitments and many times, my lack of commitment, and especially the lack of time not spent with Lady.”

In his book, The Minister’s little devotional, Dr. H. D. London Jr., pastor emeritus for Focus on the Family, strongly advises Pastors and church leaders to be mindful “that they can become so Heavenly bound that we are no earthly good.”

As a husband, I truly regret the many times I missed spending with my bride, those many opportunities I failed to go with her as she walked up and down the aisles of the grocery store. My not really listening and comforting her as she would unwind because of the actions of our children.  Or on those occasions when she endured negative remarks made by some church folks.

How blessed to have one of my daughters tell of the joy in seeing how much her own life is following in the footsteps of her Mom, developing her mother’s patience, her tolerance, how to make sweet potato pies, but especially how she has lived a Spirit-filled life for her to follow.

Paul’s advice to me and all other Christian husbands says, “Submit yourselves one to another in the fear of God…Love her as Christ loved and gave Himself…We ought to love our wife as our own body.Eph.5:17-33

I’m blessed that 40 years later, I’m still fulfilling the vows I made. All because of the Love of God.
