How We Praise Him

Are you aware that Psalm 150 is not only a beautiful expression of praise, but it’s also a lesson in how to praise the Lord Almighty? It tells us where to praise, why we’re to praise Him, how we’re to praise Him, and who should offer praise to Him.

Where do we praise Him? In God’s “sanctuary” and “mighty firmament” (v.1). Wherever we are in the world is a proper place to praise the One who created all things.

Why do we praise Him? First, because of what God has done for us through His marvelous grace and wonderful love. Second, because of who God is. Note, the psalmist praised Him for “His excellent greatness” (v.2). The all-powerful Creator and the Sustainer of the universe.

How should we praise Him? Loudlysoftlysoothinglyenthusiastically

rhythmicallyboldlyunexpectedlyfearlessly. In other words, we can praise God in many ways and on many occasions (VV.3-5).

Who should praise Him? “Everything that has breath” (v.6). The young and old. The rich and the poor. The weak and the Strong. Every human being of every skin color.

God’s will is for everyone to whom He gave the breath of life to praise Him. We are to use that breath to acknowledge Him, His power and His greatness.

Sister Roberta Martin pinned praise to God with these words: “Praise God from whom all blessing flow, Praise Him all creatures here below, Praise Him above ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Having written this, and having read over it several times. I’m humbled to the point of begging Your forgiveness Lord God for my assumption, and my taking Your love and your grace for granted. May I not be ashamed to lift my hands towards heaven, and declare my amen in praising You. Give us much joy and  praise toward You from this day on.
